Mr and Mrs Wilbur Williams of Marion spent Christmas with Mrs C R Stallings and Unely laughter. Wilbur looked like Santa as he handed out toys from a streetcar all morning to the sail children and grandchildren.
The News-Eagle reports the Farmers Institute program this year remains similar in size but adds a new feature listing all members’ names. The job department is busy printing the program this week.

He recalls shipping from Newport News on April 23 1918 arriving Brest May 7 and moving through Libourne St Emilion near Bordeaux and Camp De Longe. He describes the St Mihiel drive the Argonne Forest battle the fighting near Aubrevillle Varennes Fleville Beaumont and the armistice moment before moving to Ligney and Breillet sur Meuse. He notes mud rain ate a long range rifle practice and the Kaisers shells occasionally falling around their positions. He closes expressing hope to return home.
The Independents fell 28-23 to Warner Gear of Muncie on Saturday night after leading 14-10 at halftime and 22-21 briefly. Muncie, undefeated last year and this year, showed a fast pace and fair play. The official board of the Methodist Sunday School met at the church and elected officers including Superintendent EB DePoy and Assistant Superintendent Wim F Williamson. An automobile driven by Will Miller skidded in snow and rolled into a shallow ditch near George Akers home. Passengers included Mrs Miller and daughter Ilo Roy Sowers and family Zona Bird and a young boy. All exited safely with minor injuries. car sustained little damage. William Ballard returns from Winona camp after influenza illness.
Corp Olen O Lee writes from Camp Hancock Georgia to sister Miss Delight Lee describing a December 18 1918 visit to Augusta with Evelin. He notes a street fair a fine dinner and a big dance at night plus rabbits from hunting and a cheap day at the fair. He hopes to return home late January for more fun.
Annual farmers institute in Van Buren township to be held one day at the opera house due to the flu. Robert W. Bradford serves as president and Kenneth Camblin as secretary with a program including High School Glee Club, invocations, and several farm oriented lectures by Mr. H. F. Brewer and others. Committees and officers listed among the executive group.
