County Institute planned by Grant County farmers
Plans for the Grant County Farm ers Institute to be held at the Marion public library auditorium December 22 were announced by Mrs George Love vice chairwoman of the institute. William Madigan of Veedersburg will speak on Warm Tenancy and Rural Social Life. Mrs John Spindler of Grabill will discuss Our Present Day Housekeeping and A Program for the Farm Boys and Girls. Music by an orchestra directed by Mrs Helen Lines Bradford with a community sing.

The Masonic Band held an indoor carnival at Van Buren gymnasium on Friday and Saturday nights. It raised about a hundred dollars to support winter band expenses while maintaining weekly practice. Lucas of Marion, the band instructor, attended both nights and also teaches private classes in Van Buren for youths learning instruments.

Friends of Frank Newkirk staged a prank before the Van Buren Kokomo game by placing him in a rough box on display. John Wright announced the “capture” while the crowd circled the box. Frank blushed, proving he was alive rather than dead.

Mrs Emma Roland Dies in Marion Hospital
Mrs Emma Roland widow of the late Calvin Roland and former Van Buren resident died at Marion hospital Monday at 2 PM after years of illness. She leaves a daughter Deane Roland. The body rested at her sister Mrs J Sax on West Tenth street. Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM in Marion conducted by Rev Ellsworth and interment was in the I C O F cemetery.

On December 9 Washington township teachers held their fourth monthly institute at North Marion School with Geo. W. Johnson presiding and William N. Baker addressing pension law repeal. Alleged Forger in Custody in Indiana Case
George W. Bechtold formerly of a Van Buren area farm has been arrested in Marion on forged notes totaling about 1000 dollars. He admitted the deed in a South Whitley civil suit with Van Buren State Bank as plaintiff. judgment was entered and circuit court prosecution expected. Locals recall Bechtold from earlier times.

Accident Injures Andy Anderson Burt Worker
Leonard Anderson reports a painful accident last week while loading pipe on a flat car. A large pipe slipped and struck Andy injuring his left knee a sprain and a broken finger on the right hand with a sprained wrist. He uses crutches to move about.
