Antioch Choir Impresses Big Crowd With Song

The Antioch Church Singing class directed by Prof. Baskette of Jonesboro performed to a full Methodist Church Sunday night. The over sixty members sang with notable timing and featured duets by Prof. Baskette and Mr. Matt Hicks of Hanfield. Next week the group travels to Jonesboro for the M. P. conference.

Butler Family Reunion Draws Wide Attendance

The Butler family held its annual reunion Sunday August 8 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Witmer. A big fried chicken dinner and afternoon ice cream and cake were served. Numerous members attended including Alexander Butler, John Butler and son Hid, J B Green and family, L. G. Butler and family, Fred Haupthof and family, Robert Butler and daughter Esther, Mark Coon and daughter Mary, Royal Butler and family, R Potts and daughter Ruby, Clarence Brown and daughter Carmen, Ancil Witmer and Geo Archibald, Albert Smith, Ellen and Rhoda English, Wm. Scott and daughter Agnes, C. BR. Witmer and sons Harry and Russell, plus many others.

Undertaker Gildersleeve Delays After Dual Tragedies

Undertaker W J Gildersleeve was summoned from Lake Webster on Friday for the death of Sidney Allen. He returned Sunday afternoon and was again called Monday for the death of Mrs Adkin, then went back to Webster Tuesday evening.

Back to the town urged to curb city prosperity threat

J B Moorehead of the Southwestern Lumbermen's Association warned at a Chicago conference that centralized urban growth endangers America's future. He urged reviving small towns with local recreation, advertising, and modern price quoting to keep youth, sustain farm lands, banks, and business, and slow population loss.

MAS H KORPORAL SILVERWARE CONTEST NEARS END

The grafonola contest standings remain steady as contestants push toward the final dash to victory. The News-Eagle and Van Buren Furniture Company boosted votes as the September 1 deadline approaches. Last week Mrs. Henry Korporal won a set of coffee spoons and orange spoons. next prizes include six butter spreaders and six oyster forks.

Pythian Sloderd Sewing Circle Hosts Gathering

Mrs Lena McDougle and Mrs W K Fraizer entertained the Pythian Sisters Sewing Circle at Mrs McDougle’s home Thursday evening. Refreshments served to a long list of attendees including Mesdames Anna Corey John Howard Yon Pilkington Kary Duckwall Roy Makemson Harriet Walter Maddox and others. Miss Hester Dimit Helen Bachelder and Mrs Julian Smith also attended with wallpaper for Marion Bay at Gildersteeve's.

Denman Returns to Old Van Buren Barber Shop

James C. Denman has purchased the barber shop from S. E. Conway and resumes charge. The Denmans, with daughters Boneta and Denice, will return to Van Buren residents. Conway plans to leave for Frankfort, with John Wright remaining briefly to assist.

Farmers Thresh Wheat in Favorable Sunday Weather

Some threshing occurred in this section on Sunday as farmers used the good weather to save their wheat.
