A city council committee approved a home buyer protection ordinance after years in draft. It requires sellers or brokers to obtain and provide a city records report on liens assessments occupancy and zone use with a 13.50 fee and a six month trial period. The measure faces opposition from the real estate industry.
In the Sylmar tunnel trial in Los Angeles Deputy city attorney Roosevelt Dorn told the jury the four defendants bore sole responsibility for worker safety. He said the Metropolitan Water District and the state Division of Industrial Safety could not be blamed. The defendants Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Co and three supervisors face misdemeanor job safety charges tied to the June 24 1972 explosion and the prior flashfire. Dorn argued the employer and project managers were the workers’ employers. Closing arguments continue with defense rebuttal to follow.
