State Board of Pardons to Meet Saturday
The state board of pardons will meet in Salt Lake to consider the case of Joseph Hillstrom, convicted of the murder of J. Morrison in 1904. Hillstrom, who was slated for execution October 1, was reprieved to September 30 by Governor Spry at President Wilson's request. The act relies on the Swedish minister to the United States, who argues Hillstrom is a Swedish subject and may not have been fairly tried. If the board again declines to commute, a new execution date will be set. No new evidence has been presented by the Swedish minister so far.
