Paterson New Jersey is crippled by floods that swamped nearly two entire wards, forcing factory shutdowns, displacing thousands, and risking disease as health officials race to restore sanitary conditions. Estimated losses reach about two million dollars with widespread damage to mills and residences.
Chicago reports Dowie leading the Restorations Host a 3,018 strong force with up to 4,000 expected as Zion City followers prepare for a Madison Square Garden appearance in New York. Dowie warned Zion members not traveling to New York will wither and lose prosperity.
London reports the Alaska boundary arbitration neared a verdict as commissioners met in secret. Canadian and American officials including Senator Lodge War Secretary Root and Prof Louis Joté attended, with no decision expected. Daily sessions were held from 11 to 4, adjourned without a ruling.
A dam above Ramapo, New York, broke today sending a wall of water through Suffern and the village. Buses, barns, fences and livestock were swept away while timely warnings prevented a tremendous loss of life.
Wilmington Delaware October 12 13 year old Mary Koskiski was found dead in a ditch near her home in South Wilmington. Investigation showed she had been assaulted and thrown into the water. Her parents believed she was staying with a wealthy neighbor after assisting him last evening and did not inquire about her absence.
In Lexington South Carolina on October 12 the Tillman trial resumed with Solicitor Thurmond beginning the opening address to the jury at 10 36. He cited editorials in the State to illustrate the feud between the defendant and Mr Gonzales and argued the freedom of the press.
In Bilao Spain on October 12 a clash between Socialists and Catholics killed seven and wounded thirty three, with the Pueblo newspaper manager among the mortally injured. Revolvers were fired from the Catholic club and from St Nicholas church windows. the church vicar was arrested for shooting socialists and other priests faced rioting charges. An anti clerical mob cast a priest into the river.

A cablegram from Commander Hubbard aboard the Nashville, dated Colon, says he visited St Amirewa and found the situation quiet. The Nashville was sent to investigate alleged mistreatment of Americans on a plantation there.

Denver reports four members of a picnic party were injured when an electric car collided with a four carry-all wagon returning to the city. Mrs William Gahan, wife of Alderman Gahan, suffered internal injuries and is in critical condition. Mrs FE Bullis of Atchison Kansas, visiting George Weick’s family, was cut on the head but not seriously hurt.
New York October 12 Comptroller Grout decides not to pursue a total contest to keep his name on the Fusion ticket as a candidate for re election.
Guayaquil reports President Plaza will travel to the United States soon to attend the St Louis exposition. The article notes Congress will adjourn today and Plaza will stay only briefly before his return.
A pistol duel at Schellerhall on the parade ground yesterday between Lieutenant Schreiner of the Fifty Seventh Infantry and a reserve lieutenant left one combatant badly wounded.
Berlin October 12 Prof Sonnenberg a leading appendicitis specialist while driving with his wife son and two daughters struck a party walking killing the daughter of a local magistrate Herr Roediger. Mrs Sonnenberg was seriously hurt.
Reno reports Allen C. Drage retires after twenty years as editor and manager of the Evening Gazette. He has sold his interest in the newspaper plant to Charles A. Noreroasa.

Blickenburg has been arrested in Eldora on murder charges for his first wife by arsenic poisoning. The first death occurred at Stoney Brook five years ago. Laura Godbolt, 19 at marriage, Blickenburg’s second wife, died February 14 1900. $6000 life insurance paid. Godbolt says body was claimed soon after and cause not listed until after the funeral. He says Blickenburg was dismissed from the Epworth Methodist church.
Manila reports Hermann and Johnson, fugitives from the constabulary, fled toward Ca gayanes after abandoning their sail boat at Asia Negros Occidental and arranging a larger vessel at Guimbal. One constabulary member remains with them as the party travels. investigators note a $10,000 cash shortage from the commissary safe.

He notes government spending at Sitka's agricultural experiment station has not revealed new, unexplored possibilities.

New York Oct 12 A slight bruise on the leg of Slack Willets 16 son of Howard Willets White Plains owner of Heatherloom champion high jumper died after circulation problems and pain in his limb following treatment in a New York hospital. An operation failed to save him.
