Carranza Dispatches New Note on Border Crisis
Washington May 22 The State Department anticipates two new notes from General Carranza on the border situation reaching Washington soon. Reports from Mexico City say officials consider the border crisis critical and may reference the Glenn Springs raid. An American expedition discussed by General Funston and Colonel Sibley is cited as a possible trigger for the note. Major Langhorne and troops near the Texas border are reported moving to join reinforcements if needed. Talks in Washington indicate the army appropriation bill may be ready soon with a sizable increase, and a federal volunteer bill could be considered to bolster border forces.

Kansas Wheat Crop Forecast Signals 108 Million Bushels
Topeta May 22 A prospective field of 108 million bushels of winter wheat in Kansas this year was forecast in a report covering conditions up to May 17 issued by J H Mohler secretary of the state board of agriculture. Compared with a similar report issued at this time last year a depreciation of 28 million bushels is shown. The loss is mainly in the central wheat belt due to dry weather and in some western counties due to lack of moisture. In the eastern part the prospect has been maintained. The green has caused damage in several south central counties. County reporters suggest only about 80 per cent of the area to be devoted to corn is planted and much of the planted corn has not yet come through the ground. It has been generally too wet for corn.
