Heinis Groh of Cincinnati is hitting the ball hard and has a batting average well above the league. The Reds are climbing into the first division as Heinier shows strong all around play, aiding the team’s success.
In a high tension baseball clash on May 8, Salt Lake, led by Gregory and Hannah, bested Oakland 7 to 4. Prough started strong for Oakland but Salt Lake capitalized on fielding errors and timely hits, pulling ahead in the later innings.
The Liniki Wilay baseball team defeated Lean Tvota on Saturday afternoon, losing 7 to 1. Key players included Karilds, Hiuntavite, Moran Mortensen elite, and Clyde RdsON crivacinscence Ghote Manse.
In a five inning district league clash, Peery-Kulvelyy tallied four hits off Rudd while the Eagles managed only a single hit and three errors. Van Dyke and Nixon led fielding plays as Greenwell and Werner contributed. National League action included Chicago’s wild pitching and a pivotal finger injury to Benton, with Cincinnati defeating Chicago.
Ogden High School secured the team victory at the northern division track meet held at the fir grounds. Ralph Fuller led Ogden with three firsts and two seconds to total 2 points, ahead of Weber Academy and Boxelder, as Morgan and Contville trailed. A hammer accident injured Teron Does of Barlow during the afternoon, with the meeting featuring numerous events and an all-around strong performance by Ogden athletes.
Payson sprung a surprise by beating Springville by six points in the Utah division track meet held before thousands in Utah County. Pleasant Grove finished third as local teams showed strength in field events while Hartman of Springville faced ineligibility leading to point losses. Mile run winner Wadeworth of Payson with Nagle and Bassett of Springville second and third.
In Pocatello Idaho county officials announce a crackdown on boxing exhibitions, ending further fights in the region. County promotion leaders and local promoters face scrutiny amid reports of unregulated bouts and calls to halt fights outside sanctioned venues.
San Francisco May 7 Seals defeated Portland in a rough meet. Seals showed aggression on the track while Mugser surged in field events to take the lead, edging Parker 65 43 14 to Franklin 40 12 and Timpinogas 22 in a close team scoring. Normal Crawley of Franklin set a high jump mark and Mayberry won the broad jump with a 16 foot 4 inch leap.
Yesterday’s results show Salt Lake 6 over Oakland 1 in Salt Lake City and San Francisco 8 over Portland 1 in Francisco. Los Angeles Venice 3 defeated by Los Angeles 0 in Venice.
Logan May 7 Utah baseball and tennis teams won both contests against Utah Agricultural College representatives. Utah baseball lost 10 to 6 amid injuries and absences, while singles and doubles saw Utah win in tennis with Olaf Nelson facing Lil lie and doubles edging Barrington and Odell. Tomorrow the two state institutions meet in a dual track meet with both teams ready for a hard contest.
May 7 in Provo saw a large crowd at the public schools athletic meet. Four schools competed with strong representation and keen interest from the star athletes and spectators.
