Salt Lake swept a two game set against Vernon, winning 5 to 2 in the first and completing the doubleheader with a decisive victory. The afternoon game featured a mix of strong plays and confusion, with Evans and Dubuc contributing on the mound and in the field as Salt Lake established early leads and held on through tense innings.
In yesterday’s Pacific Coast League results Salt Lake won 7–1 in the morning game and 10–1 in ten innings against Vernon at Los Angeles, with details noting batting subs and pitching stats for Quinn and Leverence. Oakland games featured Los Angeles 2–?, San Francisco 5–13 in San Francisco afternoon. Portland-Oakland postponed.
The Seals swept both Sunday games from the Angels by the same score, 3 to 0, after rallying behind strong pitching by Deum. The series had threats of ending with a loss, but Seals delivered steady offense with key hits, while Erickson and Oldham also contributed in the doubleheader. In other action, Carlson held Chicago to two hits as Pittsburgh won 3 to 2, and Watson shut out the Reds as Cincinnati defeated them 4 to 0.
Jimmy Hing a Cincinnati pitching recruit who had tried with Brooklyn and the New York Yankees in seasons past impressed scouts with a strong showing for a team at a tryout. Ring reported Hing’s promise and the potential impact he could have for the team, noting others regarded as better prospects.
In Portland Oregon the Beavers won the series amid steady rain. Dan Hutsvee led Portland with strong pitching as Detroit and San Francisco also posted results. Groom shined for St Louis, stopping Chicago in a doubleheader as rain affected gate figures and attendance.
The Washington Market baseball team fell 4 to 1 to Southern Pacific at Green Park. Manager Shorts Williams shuffled the lineup seeking spark as Pacific’s Tracy and Montella delivered seven strong innings before Maywood closed. Wooley notched a key three-bagger while Greenwell and Haywood handled most of the pitching duties.
Spectators watched automative fans thrill as Peerless driven by W. G. Gardner beat the Hudson Super Six piloted by B. J. Dalton on Riverdale road just south of the city. The informal race covered nineteen and a half miles in about six and a half minutes amid local acclaim and talk of a rematch.
In a Saturday baseball game the Pickup team beat the Twenty-fourth Street Sluggers by 1 to 1. Hen Bond and C Jensen starred while L Nay and L Nichols underperformed. A school bond issue funds a new building on the Mound Fort school grounds with 33 rooms over three stories, plus a central heating plant and shared facilities.
Machinists engaged on fine work now make use of magnifying mirrors to watch the progress of in operation with a corridor connection. A renth lating plant will be netalled in springing the children pure air at all times. Five exits to the new building will reduce the fire hazard. These will be 34 feet in width. The school will have ten rooms for Junior high school work to take care of overflow from the grammar grades of the Mound Fort School. It will be completed by September if plans do not miscarry.
A 12 year old boy, Arthur Me Dride, was thrown from a ride at a fair as his father bought the device for him. The older brother Georges witnessed the incident and the boy remained unconscious after the fall. Police were summoned and the crowd watched as attendants tended to the injured child.
The Ogden soccer team lost to Garland’s Arthur squad in a fast, exciting match marked by three penalties for the visitors. Referee Jack Hugries oversaw the game on the Rowthem Puente grounds as players such as Orden Dranafield and Morley competed for Ogden amid a planned All Members meeting at Holes Hardware Latore.
Dida for the construction of the Orden northside Junior high school will be received at an early date. Plans for the building completed by Leste G. Hodgson. The erection of Anta Ktrugture will be the first step by the board toward city school system improvements with the $240,000 funding.
