Reduced Excursion Fares To Be Implemented By Railroads
Washington June 2 — Excursion fares to summer resorts will be reduced under directives from the railroad administration. Passenger traffic commissions are working on several thousand rate reductions for Seashore and Inland resorts, to be recommended to Director General McAdoo within a week. A number of apparent increases in rates are being corrected by passenger traffic committees, with special rates 40 to 20 percent lower than straight fares. The administration plans to add to the freight craft committee to adjust rates, as shippers and the public press for adjustments. Export and import rates were set on inverse basis and will be revised, with changes ranging from 25 to per cent above the old rate.
