Germany’s 1870s Gold Hoard Threatens Future War
A lengthy, historical survey describes Germany’s concealed 120 million mark gold reserve stored in Spandau fortress near Berlin. It details vaults of 1,260 wooden boxes containing money guarded by multiple keys, designed to fund rapid mobilization for a future continental war, with references to Bismarck era plans and fortress defenses at Spandau and surrounding districts.
