A fragmented account details a locust invasion in South America with vast swarms, egg laying by females, and ground devastation. It notes burning roads as a partial control and describes the insects marching in huge armies, consuming crops and fruit during a prolonged outbreak.
An article quotes Julian Street on how a German victory would shape American aims and global order. It argues Germany would dominate, justify expansion, and challenge the Monroe Doctrine, urging firm resistance to German influence and a united American stance.
Lady Plana Mannera, unmarried daughter of the Duke of Rutland, trained at Guy's Hospital in London to become a nurse. She had prior hospital experience in France and, despite recent turmoil, chose nursing as a path aligned with beliefs about German victory.
A historical account notes that with 800,000 Americans in the area and 1 million to join by July 1, Allied forces gain momentum. It reports Italian forces rebuilt after the Piave crossing and Austrian mistakes, while German advances on the Isonzo front are reversed, signaling improved morale and potential for a stronger push in France.
An odd wartime feature presents Kaiser Wilhelm II as a noble humanitarian figure amid German ambitions, with speculative dialogue about his potential actions and rhetoric. The piece casts him as a focal point for allied leaders to respond to, while contrasting modern leadership and the possibility of Morrisian diplomacy.

A local wartime letter urges three types of conscripts who avoid duty to fulfill obligations. It notes the third group will face public exposure as traitors, and calls on all men of means to contribute proportionally to the war effort or risk tarnishing their patriotism. The piece stresses collective duty and swift repentance.
Secretary McAdoo announced a four month financing program. The fourth Liberty loan is expected in October at about 6 billion dollars. Certificates of indebtedness will be sold in blocks starting June 25, with 750 million dollar lots issued every two weeks. Tax certificates will be issued during the summer to fund war costs a year hence. The treasury estimates total borrowing around 712 billion dollars between July and January 1.
