Johnston's Army Scout Route in Ogden Valley Explored
Capt John Newton led a small cavalry party from Johnston's army in June to map wagon road options between Yellow Creek and Ogden's Mole and to inspect routes between Bear Lake and Cache Valley. He crossed divides near La Plat and Munterville, then rejoined the main force at Emigration Canyon, reporting no easy outlet for a raid or rapid advance.
