The Spring Day and a Daydream of Schemes
A narrator in a sunlit scene resists flashy promises of riches from visiting con men. Across a carefree spring day, miners, cranks, and dreamers tout coal and mineral riches, while the speaker, wary and tired, retreats to a cellar door to escape their schemes and boasts. The piece captures a cautious mood amid alluring but risky wealth pitches.
