Oakland Oaks earned a 5 to 3 win over Salt Lake in an evenly contested opener. The Oaks led from the first inning as Salt Lake pressed to knot the score in the third. Edule Mert of Salt Lake was ordered from the Meld after a dispute with umpire Frary. The final score stood at 5-3.
Yesterday's results show Brooklyn beating Pittsburgh 2 to 0 in the opener of a Pittsburgh series, with Zach Wheat's home run the highlight. New York Nationals defeated St Louis 8 to 1 on their home return, Doak hit hard by Benton, Zimmerman scoring in the sixth. Seals lost to Beavers in Portland by 8 to 5, and Sacramento beat Vernon 5 to 1 in Los Angeles.
Cincinnati dropped back early but rallied to claim the nightcap as Boston took the opener. In the first game Cincinnati scored two runs after a slow start to pull within striking distance, while Boston forged ahead with a late surge. Cincinnati and Boston combined for a tense twin bill with shifting leads and solid pitching from both teams.

In St Louis Philadelphia aired a dramatic finish as Hendrix hit a home run in the seventh to drive a 5 4 win over the Phillies. The Cubs rallied for the win with strong plays from Hendrix Killefer Smith Clarke and Adams.
