Independence Day in Salt Lake City Brims with Festivities

July Fourth celebrations sweep Salt Lake with crowds on riverbanks and parks. Military drills, parades, and concerts fill the day as residents enjoy fireworks, contests, and statewide events from Lagoon to Lagoon to Salt Palace venues.

Bald Eagle of Manhattan Nevada Mining Advance

Manhattan Nev July 4 One of the important mining developments of the week is the strike on the Bald Eagle claim of the Manhattan Grandlord Milling company in a group in the richest portion of the Del. The find was made to No 2 abaft at a depth of 80 feet. The Bald Eagle claims extend with the Tip Top and the April Fool vein appears connected but a short distance apart. The main trends of the To Top and April Fool properties can be traced across Manhattan ground by their attempt to strike a much deeper section. The intention is to follow this lead to the 160 foot point and then intersect and drift to search for an ore. The No 2 Rate was 42 seconds with a strong showing as the mine working medium. The management shows a warlike demonstration by the valuable discovery. Operations are to be furnished by a plan involving a blasting plant with a capacity for depth to the font. The machinery has been ordered and is expected to arrive in camp soon. At No 9 claim the pay rock is being worked. Since the camp began the claim has been continually mined and praised in the mining world for its attraction to investors.

Explosion Injures Three Women at Salt Lake Street Scene

A blast in front of 263 South West Temple Street at 1:40 last night damaged storefronts and windows in the Salt Lake area. Mrs. L. G. Peterson, 66, and Miss May Higgen, 18, plus Miss Emma Higgam, 33, were injured. Glass shattered widely, with injuries including cuts to the face arms and body. Police and a doctor responded, and investigators sought the attacker who placed a large explosive device near a streetcar pole.
