Steamer Clallam Founders In Puget Sound Tragedy
Port Townsend reports the steamer Clallam sank at 1:15 a m while being towed by the tug Holyoke between Smiths Island and Dungeness Spit. Twenty five aboard were drowned, thirty one saved. Survivors were taken to Seattle aboard the Sea Lion and the Holyoke. The loss includes Captain George Roberts and many named passengers and crew.
