Paris February 1. Premier Clemenceau was struck by bullets three times in an assassination attempt. Cam Hillier entered the right shoulder and pierced the spinal cord and lungs under the left shoulder. Two bullets hit the arm and hand, seven shots fired in total. Emile Catlin, known as May, arrested after the shooting.
In Paris dispatch Catuin, who shot Premier Clemenceau, is described as a dangerous anarchist. Cott claimed full responsibility for the attack. A London report says Premier Clemenceau will face charges or scrutiny in a day or two, with government spokesman Andrew Bonar Law commenting.

Washington, Feb 19. Exports in January valued at 623 million dollars, highest month in American commerce history. January 1918 exports were 107 million. November 1918 exports 566 million. Imports in January totaled 213 million, leaving a net trade balance in favor of the United States of 410 million.
