Beet sugar harvest soars with record beet intake
A Utah beet campaign estimate shows Lewiston and Amalgamated plants harvesting over 514 thousand tons of beets, producing more than 30 million pounds of sugar. 2,420 farmers delivered about 350,000 dollars in payments averaging 381 each. Rail and freight use soared with 72,000 railroad cars transporting beets to factories, 750 workers employed, and labor and improvements totaling around 480 thousand dollars. The Onion plant capacity will be doubled to meet rising demand.
