Conference to lower high cost of clothing in Washington

Washington December 18. A conference early in January will discuss reducing the cost of wearing apparel. Assistant Attorney General Eley said the plan aims to provide standard quality cloth and garments at reasonable prices to curb extravagance in purchasing. Seventeen members, including producers and a committee, will be named after Christmas. The Amalgamated Clothing Workers will be represented. The idea is to devote effort to necessities rather than fashion, with standard quality rather than uniform patterns. The department of justice seeks to alert the public to affordable quality goods. Economical departments and economy sales were debated, with intent not to stampede buyers. After the coal strike, officials plan renewed focus on the cost of living and a meeting of the price committee is called with key officials.
