Reports from Seoul describe escalating unrest as rioting resumes at Mokpho. A Japanese mob wounded seventeen Koreans while officials rush to restore order and Russia appears to hold influence with Corea delaying response to Wiju port opening.
A Dominican government official informs a New York contact that a scheme to assassinate William F. Powell, the U.S. Minister to Haiti, and to target ex-President Jiminez, was devised in Santo Domingo. The plan involved staged street violence to attack Powell and possible attacks on Jiminez amid Dominican political turmoil.
New York reports the Kiseniff trial has continued in Moscow with 27 defendants charged with murder. A correspondent notes the evidence against most remains overwhelming though the first batch’s case has not been concluded.
A. G. Tushnell the Yale National Bank cashier in New Haven Conn shot himself before opening hours. He died about an hour and a half later. United States Examiner Burroughs was present during a semi annual bank examination while the incident occurred. A bank official suspected fear of discovering accounting damage led to the act.
Warrants issued by Deputy District Attorney Beebe for the arrest of four street railway managers in the city for violating the ordinance requiring sprinkling of their right of way. Targets include Howard F. Huntington John J. Akin E. P. Clark and D. S. McLenagan, cited for continuing noncompliance.
Nine inmates escaped from the House of Correction at Holmesburg, wearing striped uniforms before swapping for civilian clothes. Malvern Iowa December 13 A Burlington limited west bound from Chicago to Denver derailed near Malvern when engine and baggage car left the track. Engineer Know Cres ton was killed instantly. Fireman Lawrence Hayes was injured. Passengers shaken but no serious injuries. Cause of the crash not known.
From Kilkatlah in northern British Columbia authorities rescue Daniel Watabed an Indian feared by tribesmen for sorcery. Accused of using charms to win a lover he was kept without food five days before intervention by the Indian agent. Five attackers were arrested at Port Essington and fined about eighty dollars while bound to keep peace.
Rochester on December 15 reports fires destroyed the Foster and Armstrong Piano company Sloyt Shoe company and Wendell Piano company plants. Losses total about 500000 with roughly sixty percent insured. Authorities believe incendiaries started the blazes. plants were scattered and fires began within a short span.
Berlin December 135 Crown Prince Frederick William was confined to his room for three days after racing a steeplechase against the Emperor’s wishes near Potsdam three or four weeks earlier. The prince, a venturesome rider, had previously been reprimanded for riding up the steps of Sanssouci palace at the head of the second company of the guards. He had just been made colonel of that regiment. While at Bonn University he was noted for driving tandem at high speed to test corner sharpness.
A Panama bondholders letter to President Roosevelt asks him to aid in an equitable settlement of Colombia debt. The Hague report cites talks on Panama assuming 15 million, denied by the consul. Bondholders seek Roosevelt arbitration as a preferred path.
The consul at Puerto Plata reports a revolution breaking out in Santiago with extensive and serious movements. It is linked to the provisional government’s failure to gain recognition from Minister Powell, hindering its access to funds. New York reports a borough census showing about one quarter of Manhattan’s 2,007,530 population attends divine worship. Bible study and service totals include 451 churches with 664,885 members and 427,135 in attendance, split among 360 Protestant and 85 Catholic congregations.

In Syracuse on December 15 Caroline E. Hixson, an elderly former enslaved woman, says she walked from Georgia to locate relatives separated sixty six years ago. Police traced her tale to parents' former residence, but no trace exists. Two witnesses recall her and confirm a childhood kidnapping with other runaway slaves.
Vallejo California December reports say the entire torpedo fleet has not been ordered to Panama official confirmation lacking. The Perry and the Paul Jones are ready to sail to the Isthmus while awaiting East officer arrivals. The New York cruises from Bremerton toward San Francisco and may be sent to the Isthmus. Commandant M Calla and Naval Constructor Zalim oversaw Sunday orders to ready the Perry and the Paul Jones.
New York December 15 Meidelbach Icklenheimer & Co announce an engagement of 800000 dollars in gold for export. Of this sum 320000 dollars has already arrived and is on hand for shipment with the remainder to follow.
The American steamer Assyria, sailing from Philadelphia for Hamburg, ran aground on Pea Patch shoal in the Delaware River about ten miles below Kennett Del. The vessel went aground during the night and tugs have been sent to assist.
James A. Williams, named by Governor Garvin to lead Rhode Island election corruption inquiry, delivers a voluminous report. It names no specific illegality but describes inspectors using disguises including posing as book agents. At the University in Seattle Washington a clash between Freshmen and Sophomores escalated last night. Freshmen fired on a house where Sophomore Ormund lived, binding him and tossing him into Lake Union. Miles Leiser was bound and thrown into the lake but rescued by Herbert Gaston. Forty students from both sides fought over several days after a trophy was torn down from a Freshman dance decoration, and a Sophomore cut a Freshman with an axe.
In Connellsville Pennsylvania on December 1 a wage cut averaging 17 percent affects 30000 men in the coke regions. The I C Frick Coke Company posted notices at all plants announcing the reductions the first since the early nineties strike. The new rate supports a potential two dollar minimum price for formed coke. Simultaneously Union Supply Company owner of company stores announced a general price cut on goods.
Washington December 15 The House convened to study the pension appropriation bill in committee on the Panama issue. Crumpacker challenged Democrats over condemning the act of seizing roads while Crumpacker spoke with Williams. Maddox defended the party and turned to rural free delivery noting 15 000 routes last June with more than one third in Iowa Indiana Ohio and Illinois.
Three sergeants and two patrolmen were cleared of negligence in allowing Eabyard Neming to gain entry to President Roosevelt at the James K. Gracie funeral. The report by Deputy Police Commissioner Falstein, approved by Police Commissioner Greene, found no blame.
