Vienna dispatch reports Austrian corps have invaded Russian territory. The Russian advance on Zalesce Brody and Zokal in Galicia near the frontier northeast of Lemberg has been checked.
Four Austrian battleships are sunk as French forces advance rapidly into German-held territory north of the Alsatian frontier. Troops seize heights and capture twelve German field guns, eight machine guns, twelve gun carriages and ammunition. Cavalry presses forward while strong supporting lines hold to the south.
British censorship restricts reports on British troops and naval movements. Despatches from Brussels and Paris show no details on numbers, positions, or ships. French officials claim advances in Alsace with captures and prisoners displayed at the war office.
A Brussels despatch reports heavy French casualties as German defenses bore down near Namur and Dinant. The French line, initially cut up, rallied with the Marsaillaise and charged, breaking German lines. A Cettinje despatch confirms the Austro-Hungarian battleship Zrinyi and three others sunk by the French fleet in the Adriatic.
Amsterdam dispatch cites captain of the Dutch steamship Epsilon reporting a German dreadnought in Trondhjem harbor with funnels smashed and shell holes after being put out of action. No official confirmation yet.

Chicago August 1 The negro servant Mullan Carleton who set fire to the Wright bungalow at Spring Green Wisconsin then killed six household members is believed insane. The two children of Martha, Wright’s sister, who with their mother and two others were murdered, will be cremated here today. Wright said the inquest would be conducted later as authorities seek to learn motive. James Franker, Wright’s gardener, was wounded and remains in danger.

Chicago April 17 A salary of 3000 for three years plus service and block of stock in the club was agreed here as Fielder A Tunes, formerly manager of the Chicago American League club, is announced to lead the Jays at the close of the 1916 season. Mordecai Meow will be replaced as manager though Brown remains as a player.
