Ohio mob fails to seize a black suspect in chilling dawn raid

A mob of over 100 attempted to seize and hang Maynard Hudson after an alleged attack on a white 12 year old girl. Police were overpowered and a deputy was injured but Hudson was moved to Chillicothe for safety. The crowd dispersed but vowed to renew the search, raising fears of a racial clash.

Postmaster in Fairdesling Held for Embezzlement

Wise, postmaster of Fairdesling Missouri, jailed in St. Louis on charges of missing over $1,000 in accounts. He was arraigned before US Commissioner O’Bryan at Poplar Bluff and sent to jail in default of $2,000 bail. He allegedly paid his store bills by issuing money orders.

Windewater Virginia August 8 a partly successful Langley airship experiment from a house boat on the Potomac ended with the machine striking the water under full engine power. The craft traveled about forty miles an hour before it sank and was recovered badly damaged. Repairs will be required before another test.

Two Valuable Horses Are Lost In A Fire In New York

A fire destroyed two valuable horses Bernardo owned by Wilson Hishelm of Cleveland and Deimsr owned by Joseph Smith of Brooklyn. The blaze at the Empire City Trotting track near Yonkers endangered the racing stables and many high priced horses were led from stalls to safety before fire crews halted the flames. Authorities suspect an incendiary act behind the fires on Aug eight and the preceding Sunday night.

Charles Gould and wife injured in Bayside auto crash

New York, Aug 8 Charles Gould son of the millionaire car magnate and his wife were thrown from their auto in front of their Bayside home. They were unconscious two hours later with suspected internal injuries and multiple bruises. The car struck a runaway horse, killing it, then crashed down a slope to the road.
