Mason to Help Manage Eastern Headquarters
New York August 2 The management of the New York headquarters at the Republican National Committee will be in the hands of Victor L Mason of Fassale New Jersey who was appointed today secretary of the committee. This position was held four years ago by Mr Hitchcock who will be chief assistant to Chairman Cortelyan. The appointment comes as a signal that there will be an active eastern campaign with a vice chairman to oversee operations in states where Hitchcock is not present. Hitchcock intends to direct work in all parts of the center but will name a vice chairman in Chicago when he is not there. The headquarters of Secretary Ehuer Rover also will be in Chicago. Hitchcock returned from a Sunday night trip to New Jersey and planned a conference with Connell Nins at Sea Bright but a freight train wreck at Rahway delayed his return. Instead he went to Atlantic City and conferred with H Coleman Dupont of Delaware about the sneaker’s bureau and with Colonel W R Andress regarding Pennsylvania state matters. Upon return to the Manhattan hotel he spoke with William L Ward of New York but declined to express an opinion on the gubernatorial nominee for the state. The general expectation is the federal administration would oppose Governor Hughes for a second term, a view Hitchcock seemed inclined to share.
