Schools of County Benefit From New Tax Rate

County officials warn the 0.19 mill reduction on Weber County and Ogden City property will cut school revenues by about $1,200 for the year, while the county board cites an increased city levy that could net $6,000 in stabilization. County Clerk Samel G. Dye notes the education board was allowed to adjust rates, but Ogden City saw little school benefit.

Judges Refuse Renewal Of Licenses In City Saloon Case

Judges Howell and Harris denied Krank Warner renewal of his retail liquor license for the north side of Washington avenue between Twenty fourth and Twenty fifth streets. A drunken man was allowed to remain at the Garner place and liquor was sold to a minor, leading to the license denial. The matter traces to the August Paodh shooting incident and testimony that he was intoxicated when he fired. Witnesses said liquor was bought at the Garner place and other city saloons, with Paodh underage.

Senate Convenes as Wilson Address Sought on Mexican Situation

Senate met at noon with Senator Chamberlain proposing a 50 million dollar appropriation for national defense and other aims. A joint session with the House at 2 pm planned to hear President Wilson’s Mexican situation address. The House convened and heard Wilson’s remarks while Senate continued. The McGillicuddy workers compensation bill was ordered reported by the judiciary committee. Several bills passed under unanimous consent. foreign relations committee scheduled an immediate meeting after Wilson's remarks.
