Court Case Rules Deduction For Monument Fund Inheritance Tax
In Kossuth County District Court Judge Coyle ruled that sums set aside for a tomb or monument can be deducted from an estate for inheritance tax calculations. The Durant estate case, involving Henry Durant who died December 1904, centers on whether interest and taxes paid before January 1 should be deductible and whether funds intended for a grave monument reduce the tax. The state argues against deduction. the executrix favors it. An appeal is planned by County Attorney Dickinson. Warm weather forecast noted.
