A well known Algona youth pursues the Republican nomination for Kossuth county auditor. He is backed by local party activists and supporters, aiming to win the primary and bring fresh leadership to county government.
Editor B. Mayne of the Emmetsburg Reporter visited Algona last week to drum up Republican support for his candidacy to succeed Woods in Iowa's Tenth District. He touts progressive ideas, defends Taft, and decries Cummins critics, but his past backing of Perkins harms his standing with Cummins followers. Mayne says victory hinges on holding Conner’s 2 year ago vote and securing southern district support.
After a three day session the old line members conceded defeat 193 to 153 in a push to remove the rules committee from speaker control. Norris Nebraska proposes a ten member rules panel elected by the house with the speaker excluded, aiming to be chosen within ten days. The move signals rising western progressives gaining influence in Congress.
