Militia Bill Puts National Guard On Par With Regular Army
National Guard would be on the same footing as the regular army under a new militia bill. It would allow the president to call the guard into service for three years and require the federal government to provide arms and equipment. Iowa officers in Washington reported strong support, with War Department backing and a pending push in Iowa. Senator Allison is praised by supporters for probity and service while critics question wealth and misconduct allegations. Local papers urge George Boyle as a strong candidate for state senator, praising his work for the county fair and leadership.
