Goose Finds Child's Ring In Goose Tongue
Mrs. R. A. Clark near Bancroft discovered a gold ring embedded around a young goose's tongue shortly before Christmas. The ring, in fine condition, likely was picked up by the bird and swallowed while the goose attempted to swallow it.

Lone Rock Boy Wins County Calf Championship
Mervin Christenson of Lone Rock wins Kossuth county honors in the 1918 Iowa State College and Kossuth Beef Producers County Farm Bureau contest. He fed a Hereford calf 304 days, starting at 535 pounds and ending at 1150 pounds for a 615 pound gain, 2.02 pounds daily. He wrote a story for the state club leader detailing feeding and care, took a blue ribbon at the County Fair, and plans to buy a purebred cow with his prize money to outdo his father’s herd.

Rev Frank L Webster Called To Algona Baptist Pastorate
Rev Frank L Webster of Central City Iowa filled the Algona Baptist pulpit and received a unanimous call to be pastor. He will move about January 16 with a wife and two sons. one son died in France. Highly educated, he has led major Iowa churches including Grinnell and is endorsed by Dr G P Mitchell. He was raised in Ayrshire Palo Alto County where his mother and sister live. He praised the Algona church and its future prospects.

Farmer Foe of Sanity: Oesterle Declared Insane at Cherokes
William D. Oesterle a Sexton area farmer has deteriorated mentally over six months. He recently ran four miles in his underclothes and allegedly asked his wife to cut his throat. Sheriff Samson confined him before the commissioners of insanity who found him insane and sent him to the Cherokes insane hospital. He is married with several children and the cause remains unknown.

Richard Dodds Dies After Illness in City Home
Richard Dodds died at his mother's home after several days of pneumonia while visiting from Des Moines for his brother Robert's funeral. Born in Union township on April 26, 1887, he later proved up on a Canadian claim and worked for the C P railway. He married Susan Pollawsowsky of Alberta in 1911. they had daughter Audrey, six, and he left behind his wife, mother, several siblings, and other relatives. Burial took place Monday in Riverview.
