Railroad War in Alabama Ended Victory for State

Montgomery August 9 1907 a compromise ends the Alabama railroad dispute. Southern railroad license restored and measures cutting freight and passenger rates to begin September 1 1907 subject to final constitutional review by the courts. Judge Jones injunctions keep other railroad laws in effect. Southern agrees to operate under the two acts pending court decision.

Tornado Hits La Crosse Wis in Severe Morning Storm

A violent tornado struck La Crosse at eight o'clock Sunday morning, doing extensive damage across factories homes churches and electric plants. In 16 minutes it caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage within the city. Trees were uprooted streets blocked and boats were swamped as people swam to shore. The day had been fair but became chaotic as the wind turned watercraft into danger.
