Robert Kelly a miner near Mystic killed his stepson Jake Cross his wife and himself with a rifle last Wednesday evening. He lured the boy to the yard and had him pose before firing at an object then shot the youth killing him instantly. The mother was killed in the yard and Kelly killed himself immediate notes suggest domestic trouble.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Faudree were arrested last week in Coun cil Bluffs on a charge of taking items from a former apartment. The case appears to be resolved satisfactorily and they may soon be freed.
Unionville will play Milan Friday at 3 p m on the local gridiron in the season opener. Milan brings back several veterans while Unionville starts six holdovers from last year. The game is expected to be hard fought with Unionville's strength in teamwork and spirit. Fans urged to attend and support the team for a strong start.
At noon today George L. Torrey and Valetta Ferne Lowry wed at the bride’s parents home in Medicine township. The couple, from prominent families, begin married life with bright prospects and many well wishes from friends. The item also notes road work on the Capital Trail north of Unionville and community church gatherings led by J Roy Wright with a September 28 sermon.
A new pastor Rev Howard Thompson has been assigned to the Methodist church in Worthington after duty with the Army and Red Cross at Fort Worth and San Antonio. He aims to connect soldiers with local church work now peace is declared and will establish acquaintance with the community soon. Also announced is a meeting for all discharged soldiers and sailors at Worthington this week to discuss postwar matters and community support.
Tuesday's Tag Day drew high student participation with six representatives per class. Total receipts reached 126.56 dollars with several reports pending and Mary Linderman leading with 12.85. Seventh Grade led with 82.65, Sophomores 26, Eighth 22.90, Juniors 21.56, Freshmen 12.80, Seniors 12.15. funds cover annual activity costs.
Reverend W 1D Cater, pastor of the M E church, was assigned to Green City by the Maryville conference last week. He and his family will move next week, leaving warm friends here who wish them well. Leatherman was retained on the Lemons Circuit for at least another year. Mr and Mrs J W Forbes returned from Centerville Iowa after a two week visit with relatives.
Percy Talkington of Confidence Indiana wed Miss Ruth Lewis near Unionville last Thursday. The ceremony took place at the Lewin home with Squire D L Clark officiating. The couple will reside in Confidence Iowa and are described as well known and respected with many friends.
At the Royal Theatre Billie Burke stars in The Make Believe Wife on Monday. Tuesday features The Fighting Americans as the first number on the White Myers Lecture Course. Season tickets are urged for full benefits. The lecture course that was to come likely will not appear. Mrs T W Huston visited Kirksville for two weeks to see relatives.
