John Watt of near Pennville narrowly escaped death after a storm drove lightning from a mule team wagon into a ditch near his home. Watt was found unconscious in a seven foot ditch with hat and clothing torn, but has since regained consciousness.
Mrs J A Helferstine injured after slipping from cellar stairs Saturday night. She suffered a large gash requiring stitches in the back of her head, a sprained wrist, and neck injuries. She was confined to bed following the accident at their home.
Revival meetings at the Christian church continue despite poor weather and competing attractions. Elder Wright preaches strong sermons and crowd attendance remains fair to large on better evenings. The singing by R Paul Arnold is notable and six additions have joined the church. The meetings may run through this month or longer. In St Louis the Missouri Bankers Association urged lawmakers to tighten blue sky laws, with State Finance Director Hughes arguing current laws allow stock salesmen to push lucrative but worthless offerings, worse than footpads to Missourians.
G W Summers proprietor of the Theatre Royal buys the Cincinnati motion picture show from C Best and takes control Saturday. Buckalow joins to operate the projector. Summers aims to improve Unionville and Cincinnati offerings by buying films for two days, enabling better grades at lower cost and avoiding failed double-night shows.

After dinner the couple left for Chillicothe to visit the groom's aunt. Guests included W A Roberts family, Letha Alexander and son, Eva Barker and daughters, and Lucy ver. The couple are highly respected in the west end.
The Milan Republican reports a letter signed a Citi zen threatening the editor over coverage of a boy’s shooting by the town marshal. The paper printed the full letter on the front page last week and warned editors to stop printing “dirty Black Eyes” about the case.
Indiana Senator James Watson becomes the active floor leader of the Republicans in the Senate while Henry Cabot Lodge remains the titular leader due to Lodge's upcoming role at the disarmament conference in Washington starting November 11. Senators Curtis of Kansas and Brandegee of Connecticut were also mentioned in discussion.
In Cincinnati Iowa Mrs Bert E Liggett was found dead by hanging in the garage at her home. The stepson discovered the body after she had been dead for several hours. A note on the body cited melancholy and fault for domestic troubles, according to the Review.
George Stuckey travels to Center Ville Iowa to visit his ill brother E H Stuckey. The trip underscores family care as illness confines E H Stuckey to home.
The Kirksville presbytery is meeting in Unionville. It began its sessions Tuesday and expects to finish by Thursday noon. A sizable number of ministers and several elders attend from various churches in the presbytery. The program is engaging and this marks the first Unionville meeting in years.
Last Friday evening Arthur Odam broke a bone in his right leg about three inches above the ankle while dodging a ball. He twisted his foot, the injury was painful and swelling occurred, and he now requires crutches to move around.
