Story of Samuel Davis and the 18th Missouri
A Confederate spy Samuel Davis, aged about eighteen, attempted to carry Bragg vital fortification plans from Union lines at Pulaski. He refused to name his informant and was hanged on November 27, 1863, after a military commission found him guilty. The incident drew strong sympathy for Davis and harsh judgment of the officer who would have betrayed Union troops.
