Deaf Man Killed by Burlington Freight Train
Ephram Worley of Blackbird was struck and killed by Burlington Freight No. 93 as he approached town while deaf. The coroner ruled death from being run over by the train. Worley, 47, unmarried, leaves a nephew in the area with residence unknown. funeral held at Baptist church with interment in Unionville cemetery.

In Lemons Missouri on April 27 1918 residents and nearby farms organized a Red Cross sale amid rain. Crowds bid on every article including a ten dollar gold coin sold for 22.50 and a cat named Kaiser Bill burned in effigy after purchase for 176.50. Net proceeds reached about 7500 with 1130 raised to cover expenses.
