She attended seven schools in ten years, studied piano and violin, taught privately, and earned Freshman and Regent scholarships. Fire destroys chicken house at Bomgardner residence
A fire at the Thos. Bomgardner residence in the western town area destroyed the brooder and chicken house early Monday. Fire was discovered about 5 00 a.m. and seven hundred chickens perished. the blaze is believed to have started from the brooder stove.

Norton Held on Murder Charge in Ottumwa Fatal Mine Shooting
Cresser Norton of Ottumwa is jailed there on a first degree murder charge for shooting Carder three times at a coal mine near Ottumwa after Carder attempted to repossess the property. Norton, a long-time trouble maker with a police record, reportedly did not confess. Carder formerly lived near Green Top and both men are married with families.

Men to Organize Against Three-Cent Gas Tax

Quail Hatchery Plan Expands County Quail Supply
The State Conservation Commission in Londonville reviews Putnam County farmer applications for quail hatcheries. If a full hatch occurs, the county could receive about 160 birds this year with plans to steadily increase in coming years. A permanent quail sanctuary is proposed to spread supply to surrounding areas and allow earlier releases in September to acclimate the birds before winter. Notices and posting instructions will be provided to farmers, with 14 applications already approved and more sought from Rechreton and nearby farms.
