Elson Secures Subcontracted North South Highway Contract
L H Elson of this city has sub contracted the grading work on the north and south state highway through the county. The project covers about four and a quarter miles along North and South Blackbird creeks. Originally awarded to Henderson Washam Construction Co, Elson bid low but his bid was rejected for a flaw. Henderson Washam then won a larger contract east of Kanility. Negotiations led Elson to sub let the contract at nearly his original bid. He will begin as soon as earth conditions permit, providing local employment and keeping road funds in county use.

Frank Davolt a meat cutter at the Bobby Market lost part of his left hand finger when it was drawn into an electric sausage grinder last Thursday morning. The finger was cleanly severed at the first joint. the wound was dressed and healing, leaving the remaining finger permanently bent toward the others.

Fire at C. A. Agee Home Damages Kitchen Roof
Mr. C Agee saw smoke at ten this morning and found a fire starting in the north end of the kitchen. Firefighters arrived quickly and put out the blaze but the roof sustained considerable damage. The loss was covered by insurance.

Young man dies after accident near St. John
