Bids due March 15 1912 with right to reject all bids.
Theodore Roosevelt signaled willingness to accept the Republican nomination if tendered, asserting the people’s direct primaries should guide the choice. The letter dated February 24, 1912, followed governors from seven states sending a request in Chicago. Roosevelt cautioned the decision be for the good of the people, not personal interests.
