A small blaze ignited by chimney sparks damaged the roof of the Staples house last Thursday morning. Smoke escaped between shingles while the roof remained damp. firefighters quickly extinguished the fire with no major damage beyond a roof hole.
The post office will operate Sundays from 9 to 10 am and 5 to 6:60 pm. Post Master Conger orders Sunday service for patrons as accommodation, reversing a prior disruption due to a law.
James L Brasfield born Feb 20 1845 at Pleasant Home on Chariton River Putnam County died Feb 20 1913 in Unionville on his sixty eighth birthday He served in Co D 1st Cavalry Missouri State Militia and later ran a store and stock business He married Zedda Creamer in 1866 and left three children Nor a Maira and Nuk among survivors His funeral was held at the family home conducted by Rev Jardine with Masons and G A R to follow at Unionville cemetery Jacob Garver born Nov 10 1827 in Rushville Indiana lived there until moving to Jefferson County then Putnam County in 1874 He served in Iowa Volunteers Infantry and fought at Vicksburg He moved to Kansas and returned to Putnam in 1881 He joined the Christian church and the Masons and G A R He died after a paralytic stroke May 9 1911 and funeral services were held with Masonic and G A R rites in Unionville cemetery
Ephriam B. Choate died Monday at ten in Richland township. Born October 6 1845 in Kentucky he spent most of his life in the county and was widely known. Survived by his wife two marriages children several brothers and other relatives. A Civil War veteran and long time member of the United Brethren Church.
The funeral was held at the Pidittay home with Rev. A L Prosser officiating, followed by burial in Unionville cemetery. Mr Choate died after an eight day illness of pneumonia, and many friends express sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
Raymond Estes Minks aged 16 years 7 months 27 days son of George and Ida Minks of Cincinnati Iowa was killed by a horse fall near the station February 17. He died after hours of pain without regaining consciousness. The funeral was held at the Christian church with many mourners. Basel was a nephew of A L Hinton in this city.
