Charles O Reilly and family expanded to 519 acres in 1974 and 390 rented acres in 1976. They built a new home in 1975 and reported 1975 yields of soybeans 33 to 40 bushels per acre and corn 80 to 115 on various lands. No-till planting on 70 acres averaged 60 bu acre amid dry conditions.

ACP Cost Sharing Still Open in Putnam County
Requests for cost sharing under the 1976 Agriculture Conservation Program are being accepted in Putnam County. Wm J Richardson, executive director of the Putnam County ASC Committee, says funds will determine approvals and applicants should bring a soil test report when applying. Eligible practices include permanent vegetative cover, tree planting, water impoundment, sediment and runoff control, windbreaks, lime application, and weed control in permanent pastures. Applicants must indicate a conservation program and be ready to start soon after filing.

Girl Scout Cookie Sale Sets March Run Across Region
Between February 27 and March 7 more than 3 000 Girl Scouts in the local council will sell cookies plus sesame crackers and tea at 1 25 a box. Last year 91 698 boxes were sold for troop and council profits. The funds support camps vessels tents and camperships and are reused for community service projects and outdoor learning programs.

Robbery Suspects Arrested After Van Stop in Bethany
Sheriff’s deputies arrested three men in a van near Bethany early Tuesday morning after observing the vehicle fail to stop at a sign. A check writing machine stolen from Unionville and burglary tools were found, with two suspects from St. Joseph and the driver Richard L. Booten of St. Joseph. Authorities say the men appeared to be casing the community for burglary and await transfer to Putnam County custody.

Farmer Eddie Rhoades Details Longtime Family Operation
Eddie Rhoades returned to the Missouri farm in 1967 after earning a BS in Agriculture at the University of Missouri. He shares ownership with his father and expanded to 132 acres plus one third of 400 more, running about 120 head of cattle. They crossbred Angus cows with Hereford bulls to improve vigor and performance, employing haylage and silos, with corn yields affected by herbicide issues and cutworms on gumbo land.
