County Court Adjourns After Ten Days Session
After a ten day session the County Court adjourned last Thursday noon and billed the county for eight days of services plus mileage. The body approved a rent contract with R C McCalment for 83 per month including light and heat. Various accounts were allowed or disallowed including Rollie Timmons 177.64 and J A Jones 109.57 with 100 disallowed for a Joe Ralls loan. A bid from J F Buster for county property was accepted. Court costs were approved for E W Thompson 8 days 40.00 M Magee 8 days 40.00 W L Pollock 8 days 40.00 Noah Crooks 10 days waiting on court. Court adjourned to Monday March 1.

Hays Dies After Long Illness in Lancaster
Hon. Co A Heys Hays, 48, long time merchant and public servant, died Thursday evening February 11 after years of nervous trouble. Born in Schuyler county, he built the House block, ran a general store, then worked in insurance and later the drug business. A former Putnam county representative, he served in the city council about a decade ago and was twice elected to the Legislature. Funeral held February 14 at the Christian church in Lancaster with Masonic and Odd Fellows rites.

After a week of illness with pneumonia Mrs Sarah J Moore died at her home six miles east of Aninacille on Feb 10 at age 63. Born in Ohio she moved to Putnam county as a girl. Her husband died about sixteen years ago leaving seven sons and one daughter. Surviving sons reside in Iowa Illinois and Putnam county where most were present at death. She was a member of the M E church and known as a kind neighbor and mother. Funeral held Thursday with burial in Unionville cemetery.

After a long illness of inflammatory rheumatism which developed into consumption, William Ory Bartmesa died at his Mt Vernon home February 12 at 38 m. aged 60 years, 8 months and 18 days. He was born May 24, 1858 in Sullivan and married Catherine Quinn September 22, 1879. They had two sons Marion and Charles. Marion predeceased him about nine years ago. He leaves a wife, one son, father, two brothers, one sister and many relatives. Funeral service at home by Bro. George Wilson and burial in Wilson cemetery. Mt Vernon correspondent notes the family’s sorrow.
