Death of Gen John D Stevenson in St Louis

Gen John J Stevenson died at his residence in St Louis after illness dating from December 15. He served in the war with Mexico and Civil War, commanding in Tennessee and at Champion Hill, breveted for notable actions, and later practiced law in St Louis. He leaves two children, Judge John H Stevenson and Virginia E Stevenson, and his wife Hannah Letcher.

Fire devastates Hagerstown mattress factory and adjacent shops
