Rhododendron Festival Sets Pageant and Shows at MacKerricher Park

Janet Plotnik an 18 year old Fort Bragg High School senior won Miss Redwood Empire at Ukiah High School auditorium over seven contestants to represent the Redwood Empire at the Miss California Pageant in Santa Cruz. Burglary Suspect Knox Pleads Not Guilty
Lawrence Allen Knox 23 was arrested May 15 in the Forest club and pleaded not guilty at arraignment before Superior Judge Hale Mc Cowen. His trial is set for July 18. Knox was trapped by Inspector Ed Axt and deputies Glen Klein and Ladd Thomas when he tripped the burglar alarm as officers parked outside the Maveran.

Two-County Meet On Coyote Valley Dam Slated Today
Mendocino and Sonoma county boards meet this morning to discuss the Coyote Valley dam construction. Court May Stop Aiding Bad Checks
Superior Court in department No. 2 may stop serving as a collection agency for losses by bad check passers. Judge Hale McCowen said this policy could apply in the future after granting probation to Willie Anderson and sentencing Roy Martindale to San Quentin for fictitious checks. He urged more caution in cashing checks from strangers and noted prior cases in 1954 and 1955.
