Yokago district Scouters met at the Fawn Cafe for their regular luncheon. Lilburn Gibson opened the session and introduced Al Erickson from Portland who discussed Holly Berry sales as a troop fundraiser. Units must declare interest by June first. Plans call for a May 21 Scout circuit at Purdy hall, with the Sonoma Mendocino area council camporee tentatively set for Hendy Grove on April 23-24. Ukiah volunteers will assist at Camp Nova as preparations continue. Board of review is scheduled March 25 at the Presbyterian church, with Court of Honor planned for April 1. See Boy Scout, Page Six.

Carnival to feature family entertainment at P-TA event
A community carnival for all ages is set for Saturday March 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Yokayo auditorium, sponsored by the Yoka-Yo Northside and Pomolita elementary P TAs. Dozens of booths offer games and prizes, with food, cakes, movies, and child geared activities. Proceeds support the Elementary School Welfare Fund run by the school nurse and welfare chairs.

County board actions approve health permit and new assistant
The board amended a county health ordinance granting health officials permission to inspect a well after completion and approved the well permit. UHS Senior Wins National Art Contest Award

Judge Hale McCowen overruled a jury award of $17,500 to Karl Schramke in a personal injury suit arising from a March 25 1953 tractor accident. George Reed, a Ukiah insurance adjuster, announced the purchase of the Cecille Hotel at State and Perkins by Reed for an amount listed as ANOUT OLUU Bou. Seller Mrs. Sarah Marks of Danville. late husband Henry Marks bought the property in 1901. The hotel was built by George B. Mathers in 1878. Marks came from Cvelo to Ukiah to buy the hotel and ran H Marks Ladies and Gents Furnishing Goods at the Maple Cafe corner. Reed has lived in Ukiah nine years and belongs to Reed and Corippo in the Poulos Building.

Former Mendocino County Sheriff Beverly G Broaddus has filed to be appointed Ukiah district court judge to fill the vacancy from Judge William Van Dyke's resignation effective April 4 7 Broaddus submitted a written application to the board of supervisors on Tuesday including a request to take a required exam for non attorney applicants. The other candidate is Ukiah attorney Fred G Goss who filed last week and the Mendocino Bar Association has recommended Goss for the post. The board will decide the appointment on March 7 at 3 p.m.
