A dedication ceremony and barbecue are planned for Riverside park on Sunday July 10 at the Russian River site near Vichy Springs road bridge. Arnold Book chairs the event which marks the joint effort of the Ukiah Police Officers Association and the Mendocino County Labor Council to develop the recreation area with support from local groups. The program starts at 3 p m with swimming picnic and entertainment.

Forest Fire Near Ukiah Brought Under Control
A forest fire on Orr Springs road about 12 miles northwest of Ukiah was contained yesterday afternoon. About 40 men fought the blaze, burning around 18 acres of timber. Crews from Ukiah and Hopland remained on patrol, while backfire from a bulldozer causing gasoline ignition is blamed.

Will Award Contract for 5.2 Miles of Wil-Hite Want Drane Route
The state will fund a 5.2 mile Wil-Hite Want Drane reroute project with total costs around 254 299 50 dollars. Superior Judge Lilburn Gibson awarded 2500 to James Ray Dwyer after an unguarded cesspool on Boonville Lumber Co property near Philo injured him on May 22 1949. The boy was pushed by a playmate while other children played nearby. The suit was filed by his mother Gladys Dwyer.
