Al St John manager of the Ukiah fair horses show told the Rotary club that pari mutuel betting will not be recommended for the 12th District Fair. He cited 425 days of scheduled California racing and urged the fair remain a county event. St John said he will oppose the proposal in his report to the California horse racing board. He noted Assemblyman Sam Geddes will visit the district amid talk of removing 14 million dollars from the fair fund and warned many large fairs could close. About 90 horses will compete in the open class Saturday night, with Friday night devoted to local entries.
