1,620 Acre Fubar Fire Near Laytonville Destroys Timber
Firefighters battled the 1,620 acre Fubar fire ten miles northeast of Laytonville, burning timber, slash and grass in Eel River canyon after starting midweek. Contained by midnight Saturday and fully controlled by noon Sunday with 450 firefighters and six air tankers. Two injuries reported among crews. a California Youth Authority inmate was treated after a fall but returned to duty. No structures were destroyed.

Ukiah youth miraculously escapes death in wreck
An 18 year old Ukiah youth named Marc David Higginson escaped a deadly crash on Brush Street early Saturday. He was hospitalized at Hillside with a fractured right leg and ankle, a fractured left heel, and multiple wounds. Police say he lost control near the railroad, wrapping his car around a walnut tree after dislodging a fire hydrant and tearing 75 feet of fencing. Firefighters, medics, and police spent over 30 minutes extricating him as water sprayed from the hydrant. The car was totaled and the investigation continues.
