Gas price hike in the offing

United Press International reports President Nixon instructed the Cost of Living Council to speed review of retail gas station prices and decide this week what increases are allowable. A spokesman said the council will start reviewing data Tuesday and may authorize dealers to raise prices. In Northern California many stations closed over the weekend in protest to price controls.

Lakeport Boys Rescued From Mt Konocti Cliff

Two Lakeport youths aged 17 and 15 were rescued from a 1,000 foot cliff on Mt Konocti by the Kelseyville fire department rescue squad after spending the night wedged in crevices. They, along with a deputy and reserve, with high winds and damp conditions hindering progress, were pulled to safety by dawn and treated with blankets and coffee.

Skylab 2 Crew Readies Splashdown After Long Orbit

Skylab 2 astronauts Alan L. Bean Owen K. Garriott and Jack R. Lousma prepared to unhook the Apollo ferry ship for a splashdown off the California coast Tuesday afternoon.
