Ford Warns Oil Producers Of Global Dangers At Energy Confab

President Ford told the World Energy Conference in Detroit that high oil prices could spark a worldwide downturn and potential conflict. He urged a global strategy to curb prices without wrecking economies, warning sovereign nations must avoid being dictated by artificial market distortions. He spoke after addressing the UN and drew a rebuke from Venezuela’s President Perez.

Four Injured in Mendocino County Weekend Crashes

Four people were injured in four separate Mendocino County highway accidents over the weekend. Richard Day, 39, of Yorkville, is in poor condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after a Boonville hit run where he dropped a bag and was struck by a car driven by Rosalind English, 24. Day was thrown 42 feet. he had crossed Highway 128 intoxicated near the Lodge Cafe Friday at 9:50 p.m. A Cloverdale man, 31, suffered arm abrasions and is in satisfactory condition after losing control of his motorcycle on Highway 128 Saturday, skidding 200 feet after scraping a guard rail. An 18-year-old Okiahan resident received minor injuries at Howard Memorial Hospital after a Sunday morning accident on Highway 101 near Ridgewood gate. Gregory Narvaez lost control on a curve, causing a pickup to strike embankments and overturn. A Lakeport man received minor injuries after a rear-end collision on Highway 101 near the Sonoma County line when Adele Pinch’s vehicle, driven by Noel Nelson, slowed to turn into a private drive.

Local fires keep Mendocino County crews busy weekend

Forestry firefighters battled 11 fires totaling 98 acres across Mendocino County over the weekend. Major blazes included a 57 acre fire near Boonville started Friday morning four miles west of town, controlled by 4:12 p.m. Four air tankers and multiple crews fought it. A second 40 acre brush and timber fire southeast of Hopland began Sunday afternoon, with mop up continuing. Two structures burned near Laytonville. both valued at $5,000. Additional small grass and brush fires occurred near Covelo Willits Laytonville Ukiah Fort Bragg and Orr Springs Road over the period.

Honduran city halts burning victims due to fuel shortage

UPI Boston report: Senator Edward M Kennedy says he will not seek the presidency or vice presidency in 1976 due to family and personal commitments. He cites his son Ted Jr’s cancer battle, his wife Joan’s hospitalizations, and his duty at home, insisting the decision is firm and not subject to change. He aims to help his party and expects to seek re election in Massachusetts.

Well-heeled aid recipient in Fort Bragg fraud case

A 42-year-old Fort Bragg man, John Doench, was arrested on two counts of felony welfare fraud after allegedly using general relief funds while holding $6,000 in traveler's checks. He visited the social service office on Nov 16 1973 and used money orders for groceries and rent, then charged a second cart to relief funds and paid with a $50 traveler’s check. Authorities say he had just received a $6,000 disability settlement and obtained $6,000 in traveler’s checks that day.

Ribbon cutting at juvenile hall school on Low Gap Road

County supervisors will attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new juvenile hall school on Low Gap Road at 1 30 p m across from the county schools office in the Low Gap complex Tuesday. The meeting agenda includes a Calpella water district loan request at 10 15 a m, a Centrex telephone system review for the courthouse at 11 a m, and a CalTrans report on Highway 1 improvements north of Point Arena at 2 p m.

Ukiah Council Plans Urban Design Study Downtown

Ukiah city council sets budget funds for a downtown urban design study to modernize beautify and improve public facilities. A citizens committee will oversee the project with recommendations to the planning commission and council. Interested residents should contact City Hall.
