Mendocino College drops Mendocino State Hospital site

Trustees Friday moved to abandon Mendocino State Hospital as a permanent campus site citing renovation and conversion costs. They opened possibility of joint or mutual use facilities including athletic recreation and a community performing arts center, with Willits Ukiah and Ukiah districts urged to submit site suggestions and await architectural firm hire.

Mendocino College district eyes Upper Lake annexation plan

The Mendocino Community College district received a resolution from the Upper Lake Union high school district requesting annexation. Upper Lake noted Mendocino College is nearby and asked the county committee to draft a plan including annexation. The Lake County Committee on School District Organization will meet September 25 at the Lakeport courthouse as interest grows from Yuba Santa Rosa J.C. and Napa colleges. Fire and rescue calls included a grass fire at Eastside Calpella Road and a power outage elevator rescue at the Palace Hotel.

Ukiah Council revises sewer and water hook up charges

Ukiah city council introduced two revised ordinances raising future sewer hook up fees and costs for water transmission storage production and treatment. Oakland Woman Killed In Highway 101 Crash

A 76-year-old Oakland woman, Rita A. Farmer of Willits, died after a two car collision on Highway 101 near Ridgewood grade. Her brother in law Mark Malcolm Walker of Willits was injured and hospitalized. A second driver, Loral Beeler of Willits, was treated and released. The crash occurred at 11 40 a m as the Walker vehicle turned onto the highway.
