Varsity and Frosh Teams Prep for Fort Bragg Games

Chionoi Stops McGowan To Defend Flyweight Title

Chionoi of Thailand defeated Scott McGowan in seven rounds to retain the world flyweight title in London. McGowan suffered a gash over the left eye that forced the stoppage, with a ringside doctor stating the damage was caused by a clash of heads rather than a punch. Ukiahans Earn All Stars In Indian Softball Tourney

Ukiahans led by Ciaet Crabtree and Larry Treppa earned spots on the All-Indian Softball All-Star team after losing 10-1 to champion Healdsburg in the three day tourney final. San Diego Rockets beat Supersonics in exhibition

In San Diego Calif the NBA expansion Rockets defeated the Seattle Supersonics 145 to 120 in an exhibition at San Diego State University Golden Gym. John Black scored 32 points to lead the Rockets while 6 foot 9 inch center Meschery led Seattle with 49 points but played only in the first and third periods. New golf putting rule bans croquet style stroke

UPI reports royal and ancient governing bodies joined USGA to sanction new rules removing croquet style putting. The code bans stroking while astride or with a foot on the line, and speeds play, with a review set after four years.
